How to Play Blackjack
Playing blackjack is actually deceptively easy, though it’s actually a rather complicated game if you are determined to win at the game. Here at Rummy-Gin.Org, even though our name implies that we focus on Rummy and Gin Rummy, we definitely embrace all kinds of card games and that includes blackjack, the professional gambler’s favorite game. Sometimes Called 21 For those who have never played blackjack, the idea is to stay below or at the “blackjack” number which is 21. If you go over 21 points, you automatically “bust” and you lose, regardless of what the dealer has in his or her hand. The game is sometimes called 21 (as in the famous movie about it) because of the fact that the object of the game is not to go over 21 points. Initial Play Different places have different ways of playing blackjack, however the basic version of the game has the dealer putting out one card face up and another face down in front of him or her. Each player is then dealt two cards, in some cases both are face up and in others, one is face down while the other is face up. How to Win The object of the game then is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over that number (you can also get exactly 21 which is “blackjack.”). So for example, if you got a 2 and a 10, you have 12 points and may want to take another card to get closer to blackjack. You take another card by telling the dealer “hit me.” He or she then deals out a single card which is face up. You need to continually evaluate how close you are to 21 to decide whether to stay or hit. Staying in Blackjack Once you have as many cards as you want, you say that you want to stay. If all the other players have stayed as well, the dealer’s cards are revealed. Whoever has come closest to blackjack wins the game. If the dealer or another player busts, then they automatically lose. However, the catch is that the dealer has special status with blackjack online. If you bust before the dealer reveals his or her hand, you automatically lose, even if the dealer busts also. Value of Cards All number cards in blackjack have the exact value that they say (i.e. a 2 is worth 2 points, a 3 is worth 3 points, etc.). However, face cards (jack, king and queen) are worth 10 points each and the ace is worth 11 points in blackjack.
